Stories

This page contains images that are inspired by my love of written conversations in the form of novels and poetry. They still share my realistic style, but reflect far more interpretive and fantastical imagery.

Fantasy Forrest (1 of 1).jpg
Fantasy Forrest

A scene worthy of fairies and hidden kings. I love the play of light and darkness that forests offer. That contrast is something a good book can offer too.

What big teeth you have

I have always loved the old tales and fables. Inks allowed me a fluid freedom to create a darker haze in the forest.

The Beautiful Dead

These women were born out of a request to paint something based on a line from Edgar Allan Poe "The death of a beautiful woman is unquestionably the most poetic topic in the world".

What if Death thought a woman was so beautiful he couldn't bare to take her, so he just brought her flowers instead? A seemingly romantic gesture, that results in limbo. Unable to live and unable to leave. While we may not all be the object of Death's admiration, we've all known what it is to feel stuck in that place between where we were and where we will be.

Peaceful Pathways (1 of 1).jpg
Peaceful Pathways

The peacefulness, the dappled light playing through the trees. I wanted to portray that timeless sense of serenity that can be found in the forest.

Freya's Daisies

Daises are said to represent new beginnings. They show that death is a doorway, not an ending.

Blood red Rose (1 of 1).jpg
Blood-red Rose

The myth says that all roses were white. Red roses were created from the grief and the blood of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, when her lover was killed.

Maiden Head (1 of 1).jpg
Golden Crown

The Goldenrod flowers Latin name means to heal or make whole. Perhaps Death would hope to restore the damage done to her face.

Moonlight Serenade (1 of 1).jpg
Moonlight Serenade

No flowers for the ocean beauty, but the endless music of the waves and the dance of moonlight through water.

Nymphaea%20(1%20of%201)_edited.jpg
Nymphaea

Water lilies are seen as a flower of resurrection or rebirth.  Much like the Moonlight Serenade there is a sense of eternal motion.
